98% of all of the so called male pattern baldness is caused by the over-production of the male sex hormones. The result of the excess is the galea (a tissue on top of the scalp) is thickened constricting the blood capillaries in the scalp so starving the hair’s blood supply at the roots.
It is this male patterned baldness and baldness caused by deficiencies in the nutrition that I am referring to below.
Important Dietary Facts
Firstly the health diet should be followed putting emphasis in particular on raw vegetables that are rich in silicon such as alfalfa and comfrey (if available), try out the common nettle, onions and kelp. Other great foods that are beneficial are:
- Oats (oats are silicon rich)
- Sesame seeds
- Whole grains
Goat’s milk is much more beneficial than cow’s and even better if it is in soured form. I mustn’t forget, yogurt, raw egg yolks (at least twice weekly) and kefir.
Make sure the diet is adequately high in quality proteins (it is a fallacy that because hair is made of protein the diet should be extremely high in proteins) You should make sure that the diet does contain protein, mainly of the vegetable variety, such as sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds. Other high protein foods are, brewer’s yeast, wheat germ (only if you can obtain fresh and then not more than a week old) and almonds.
Going back to the hair being made of protein, this is basically wrong, hair is made up of proteins and minerals, minerals being more important for the health of hair that proteins are. A little fact here that may surprise you about proteins and hair. Americans are the highest protein eaters in the world, and also there are over 50 times more bald men in America than in other countries including low protein eaters, such as India, Mexico, Japan and China.
Foods to Avoid
Both sugar and salt. Also avoid tobacco and alcohol. Over indulgence of salt and sugar has been proven to be contributing factors of both dandruff and hair loss.
The following has been found to be effective in the treatment of baldness, it is essential to increase circulation bringing blood to the hair roots so in addition to the vitamins and supplements shown below please take note of the things to do shown below:
- If you are able stand on your head at least 2 or 3 times a day
- Prolonged Mental stress brought on by anything including mental work can and does constrict the blood vessels in the scalp so impairing the circulation. I know we have to have some mental stress in our lives, but that said, try to avoid prolonged bouts of it.
- Refrain from shampooing hair excessively
- Use an electronic scalp massager or use your fingers to massage your scalp.
Ask Your Doctor
For Minoxidil, sold under the brand name Rogaine among others, it is a medication used for the treatment of high blood pressure and pattern hair loss. It is an antihypertensive vasodilator. It is available as a generic medication by prescription in oral tablet form and over the counter as a topical liquid or foam.
Your doctor will know all about its side effects and will explain in detail the why’s and wherefor’s of taking the medication. I am not recommending it, just informing you that it is available through prescription.
