There are a few factors that can be involved in the instigation of constipation, such as a lack of sufficient exercise or even a variety of different physiological or psychological symptoms. Other factors to take into account are: dehydration (not drinking enough water), a specific food allergy, too much use of laxative, nervous disposition, grief, hypothyroidism, deficiencies of certain minerals or vitamins especially Vitamin B and too much protein (animal variety) in the diet which can result in the intestines becoming putrefied.

Other factors that could be the cause of the constipation are: deficiency of Inositol or Potassium. It is essential to eliminate each and every one of the above in order to treat the condition and correct it on a permanent basis. All this elimination should be carried out before starting on the treatment suggested below.

Important Dietary Facts

Start with the health diet Stress must be made on raw foods such as fish, fruit, vegetables, (only fresh) and sprouted seeds such as alfalfa seeds and whole grain cereals such as brown rice and millet (these can be obtained from your local health store) – the only exception for fresh fruit and vegetables is if your favourites are not in season, but then only once in 2 weeks. You must make use of the fruit and vegetables that are obtainable in the stores.

Fresh homemade sauerkraut and sauerkraut juice should become part of the diet as should prunes, dried figs (eaten morning and evening), sesame seeds, yogurt, kefir, honey, soured milk, alfalfa, mung beans, apples, fresh vegetables whatever are available.

Every morning take 2 tablespoons of olive , sesame or safflower oil then drink a glass of excelsior (vegetable broth with seeds). Excelsior should be consumed both morning and evening. Liquids such as juices, herb teas, broths and water should also be plentifully consumed.

Beneficial Treatments

  • If the constipation is of a severe variety and persists for longer periods it is advisable for the patient to be put on a 10 day juice fast. Begin the fast with a glass of orange juice containing 2 tablespoons of castor oil. Herbal laxatives would be best, but if your health shop can’t put you onto any good ones, Fynnon’s Salts will do and should be taken every morning to act as an enema (follow the instructions on the can). After the fast is over follow the health diet.
  • Exercise is essential as lack of it can be a cause of constipation. Walking, swimming, riding a bicycle or even horseback riding. Any exercise no matter if you want to dance, this is still exercising. Actually if you walk for at least two hours a day this should remedy the problem.
