GOUT

Gout is now curable and is probably the best understood of all the rheumatic diseases. The disorder is due to an imbalance of chemicals in the body that lead to a build up of uric acid salts (urates) in abnormal quantities in the body. Uric acid is an end product of protein in all persons. The kidneys excrete the uric acid in the urine. People whose kidneys do not excrete uric acid as efficiently as they should sometimes suffer from a condition known as secondary gout. This seldom means a serious kidney disease where there is a failure to cope with all its functions including excretion of uric acid from the body as waste. Whatever the cause, when urates build up in the body, in certain circumstances, there may be crystals deposited in and around the joints, this provokes a sudden attack of gout. Gout one of the most painful complaints known.

FACTS ABOUT GOUT

According to popular opinion, gout is the penalty for high living and over indulging in rich foods, not so, the condition occurs throughout the population. Alcohol and diets rich in certain proteins known as purines may raise the body uric acid level temporarily and can cause an attack in susceptible people. Habits are not in any way the reason for the underlying chemical abnormalities that determines whether or not a person will have a high uric acid level in the blood. Illnesses, injury and even operations can provoke an attack. Bringing down the uric acid level is a must in order to treat gout.
