JAUNDICE
The patient should be put on a one week juice fast as no solids should be given if the jaundice is in an acute stage. A juice fast using the special juices given below under Beneficial Treatments and herb teas. After fasting for a week the health diet should be followed adding skimmed milk and homemade cottage cheese to the diet on a daily basis. The diet should be full of fresh fruit and vegetables in whole and juice form. Try making salads using the following:
- Artichoke hearts
- Apples
- Dandelion leaves
- Endives
- Pears are extremely beneficial
- Radishes
- Watercress
Twice a week raw egg yolks should be consumed, eaten like oysters.
Avoid fats and fried foods and have the patient drink a glass of water containing the juice of half a lemon each morning upon rising.
Beneficial Treatments
As mentioned, a juice fast for one or two weeks, using the following juices:
Lemon, pear, add radish juice to carrot juice and dandelion juice to beet juice and of course any grape juice
The patient should have a warm poultice made with crushed cabbage leaf placed directly onto the liver area.
Plenty of rest is essential
The patient should drink several cups of barley water made from 1 cup of barley boiled in 5 pints of water. When the water containing the barley comes to the boil it should be left to simmer for 3 – 4 hours. This treatment has been found to clear up the jaundice.
